Little Vinnie the hedgehog rescued from a magpie in Dunfermline

Vinnie was spotted in a front garden in Dunfermline when Jen was on her way to the shops one afternoon. Knowing a hedgehog shouldn't be out in the day, she was concerned. She hurried to the shop and then made her way back, only to see the hedgehog being chased down the road by a magpie.

Jen picked little Vinnie up and gave us a call, then brought him through to the rescue. He arrived snuggled up in a hat. Weighing 238g, he was far too young to be out on his own, especially in the day.

Vinnie has had some nasty parasites, which he is receiving treatment for, but he is doing well and putting on weight nicely. He is now over 400g.

Thank you so much to Jen for scooping Vinnie up. If she hadn't, the magpie would have had an easy meal. If you find a hedgehog out in the day, you can read what to do on our found a hedgehog page.
