BURNTISLAND HEDGEHOG HAVEN

FLY STRIKE

WHAT IS IT?

If you find a hedgehog with what looks like small grains of white rice on its face (a common area) or between the spines (prickles) the hedgehog will need URGENT help.

THIS IS FLY STRIKE

Fly strike is fly eggs.

Sadly flies waste no time in seeking out a poorly or injured hedgehog and will land and lay their eggs.
With the warmth of the sun these eggs will hatch within 8-24hrs into maggots which will start to eat the hedgehog unless help is sought quickly.

This is why it is so important to get a hedgehog out in the day help asap as flies are a big threat to hedgehogs.
