Three Years of Hedgehog Care: A Heartfelt Thank You

As we reach the end of our third year, it feels like the perfect moment to pause, reflect, and say a heartfelt thank you to every single person who has supported our journey.

What began as a small effort to help injured and vulnerable hedgehogs has grown into something truly special. Every hedgehog that has arrived through our doors represents not only an animal in need, but also the kindness and compassion of a community that cares deeply about wildlife. Quite simply, none of what we do would be possible without you.

Community Support That Makes Everything Possible

From the very beginning, the support we have received has been overwhelming. Whether you have shared or commented on our social media posts, helped raise awareness of the work we do, or simply spread the word among friends and family, every action has played a part in helping us reach more people and ultimately more hedgehogs.

Many of you have also supported us in practical ways. Some have kindly dropped off newspapers, which are essential for keeping our rescue spaces clean and comfortable. Others have brought cat and dog food, which helps us feed the many hedgehogs that arrive needing care and rehabilitation.

We are also incredibly grateful to those who have donated funds, signed up to monthly contributions, or purchased items from our Amazon wishlist. These contributions allow us to buy medical supplies, food, bedding, and all the other essentials required to keep the rescue running.

Every donation, no matter the size, helps us continue our mission of helping as many hedgehogs as possible. Without this support, the scale of what we do simply would not be possible.

The Incredible People Behind the Rescue

While Burntisland Hedgehog Haven may be the name people see, the truth is that the rescue is powered by a group of remarkable people.

Our volunteers give their time, energy, and compassion to help care for hedgehogs in need. From feeding and cleaning to monitoring recovery and preparing animals for release, their dedication makes an enormous difference every single day.

We also want to recognise our wonderful Hogbulance drivers. These individuals often travel considerable distances to collect injured hedgehogs and bring them safely to us for treatment. Their willingness to respond quickly can make the difference between life and death for these animals.

To every volunteer and Hogbulance driver who has helped over the past three years, please know how deeply appreciated you are.

A special thank you must also go to Kelly and the entire team at St Clair Vet Group.

Their compassion, expertise, and continued support have been invaluable. When hedgehogs arrive needing urgent medical attention, we know they are in safe and capable hands. The care they provide helps ensure that many of the animals we see have the very best chance of recovery.

Everyday Heroes Who Rescue Hedgehogs

Perhaps the most important thank you of all goes to the people who stop and help a hedgehog in need.

When someone finds an injured or distressed hedgehog and takes the time to bring it to us, or contacts us for advice, they are giving that animal a chance. Without that initial act of kindness, many hedgehogs would sadly never receive the help they need.

Every hedgehog we treat first had someone who noticed them, cared enough to stop, and took action.

Those simple acts of compassion are what make rescue work possible.

Looking Ahead

Reaching our third anniversary is an incredible milestone, but in many ways it is only the beginning. There is still so much work to be done to help protect and care for hedgehogs, whose populations have sadly declined in recent years.

We have lots of exciting plans for the future, and we look forward to continuing this journey with all of you by our side.
