Maple the hedgehog is healing after a dog attack

Hedgehog recovering from wounds on her neck at the rescue

Maple came to us after being mauled by a dog. A huge thank you to Gillian Campbell, who realised what had happened, secured Maple and brought her straight to us.

She had some very nasty puncture wounds on her neck. Puncture wounds are not always easy to see between the spines, so if your dog ever picks up a hedgehog it is vital that the hedgehog is checked over by a rescue or vet.

Thankfully, the wounds are healing well thanks to daily care. The dead skin has died back and the punctures have scabbed over. We hope to see new spine growth soon.

She also has an overload of Capillaria, likely brought on by stress, so she is being treated for that as well. She is such a sweet, tolerant girl. Bless her heart.

If you find an injured hedgehog, here is what to do.
