A Message from Andy: £630 Raised for Winter Hedgehog Care – Thank You!

Yellow sticky note reading "Thank you!!!" in handwriting, with a black pen beside it on a pale blue background.

Over the past two weeks, we’ve watched one man take on two mighty half marathons in support of Burntisland Hedgehog Haven. First, the Kirkcaldy Half Marathon. Then, the Great North Run. One pair of running shoes, two major events, and a whole heap of heart.

Now, after the medals have been collected and the legs have (hopefully) stopped aching, Andy has a message for all of you the friends, family, supporters and hedgehog heroes who helped him raise a brilliant total.

Here’s what he had to say:

“I would like to thank each and every one of you that sponsored me for the Kirkcaldy Half Marathon and yesterday’s Great North Run
Together you all donated £630, plus some Gift Aid to be added on – so we’ll put this towards the winter care bill for our hedgehogs that will be with us over the colder months.
Thank you all so much.

Andy xx”

£630 – A Lifeline for Winter Wildlife

Winter is one of the most challenging times for our prickly residents. Many of the hedgehogs we care for at Burntisland Hedgehog Haven are too young, too small or too sick to hibernate safely which means we care for them throughout the colder months, often into the spring.

This includes:

  • Warm, safe indoor housing

  • Specialised food and dietary supplements

  • Veterinary care for those still recovering from injuries or illness

  • Daily monitoring and enrichment to help build strength before release

Thanks to Andy’s incredible effort and your generosity, £630 (plus Gift Aid!) will go directly toward keeping our hedgehogs safe, fed and warm all winter long.

Every tin of food, every heating pad, every vet visit your donations are already making a difference.

It’s About More Than Miles

We said it before and we’ll say it again, this wasn’t just about running. It was about community. About compassion. And about taking action to help the smallest, most vulnerable creatures in our corner of the world.

Andy did the hard miles but all of you made this a team effort.

From the bottom of our hearts and from every hedgehog who’ll feel the warmth of your kindness this winter…thank you.

What’s Next?

We’ll continue to share updates on how your donations are helping us care for hedgehogs throughout the winter season. You’ll get to meet some of the over-wintering hogs, see their progress, and watch them grow stronger day by day.

If you missed the fundraiser and still want to contribute, there’s still time to donate:
