We are absolutely thrilled to share that Burntisland Hedgehog Haven has been featured on BBC Newsround as part of a special feature highlighting the decline of hedgehogs across the UK and the work being done to help protect them.

The piece, presented by De-Graft and the fantastic Newsround team, visited us a couple of months ago to see first-hand the care, rehabilitation, and dedication that goes into rescuing sick, injured, and orphaned hedgehogs every single day.

To now see that feature broadcast nationally is something we are incredibly proud of.

Raising Awareness for Britain’s Hedgehogs

Hedgehogs remain one of the UK’s most loved wild animals, yet sadly their numbers continue to decline at an alarming rate. Seeing a hedgehog in your garden has become far less common than it once was, which makes education and awareness more important than ever.

The Newsround feature focused not only on the work we do here at Burntisland Hedgehog Haven, but also on simple ways people at home can help hedgehogs survive and thrive.

From creating safe access through garden fences to providing fresh water, suitable food, and checking carefully before strimming or lighting bonfires, small actions can make a huge difference.

Our Busiest Winter Yet

As mentioned in the BBC report, this past winter has been our busiest yet.

Every year we are seeing increasing numbers of hedgehogs arriving into our care. Many are underweight, injured, dehydrated, or suffering from illnesses that require intensive treatment and rehabilitation before they can safely return to the wild.

Running a rescue is a full-time commitment, and features like this help shine a light on the growing pressures facing wildlife rescues across the country.

Most importantly, it helps spread the message that hedgehogs still need our help.
