A Wonderful Surprise from Meadow! 🦔💕

We had a very special surprise at the Haven yesterday when we discovered that our lovely hedgehog Meadow had been keeping quite a secret!

Meadow originally came into our care after being found in a very frightening situation. She had become stuck in a sunken bird bath filled with water and thankfully was discovered and brought to safety.

Since then, she has been settling into life at the Haven. But it turns out Meadow had something else planned!

Yesterday, our volunteer Shan opened the bedside door of Meadow’s pod and was greeted by the wonderful sight of a tiny new family. Nestled safely with mum were what appear to be four, or possibly even five, little hoglets! 🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔

At this very early stage, everything appears to be going well. Our priority now is to give Meadow and her babies as much peace and quiet as possible during those all-important first days.

For the next week, the nest will be left completely undisturbed. Our volunteers will quietly change Meadow’s food and water and carry out only essential spot cleaning, allowing mum to concentrate on caring for her new arrivals with minimal disturbance.

We’ll be keeping our distance and letting Meadow do what comes naturally, but hopefully, when the time is right, we’ll be able to share more news about her growing little family.

From being rescued from a water-filled bird bath to becoming a mum to a beautiful litter of hoglets, Meadow has certainly given us a story to remember.
